i had been looking into buying some faux moss but i couldn’t find any at a reasonable price and then yesterday my partner Howard came home from work with this big piece of artificial grass. apparently he cut if off part of an old display lol. its really flexible like fabric it reminds me of the stuff they line the fruit an veg shelves with at the grocery shop.
i had a stencil of a deer i cut on my silhouette a while ago so i pinned it to the artificial grass and cut it out. to make it look more like moss i trimmed some of the left over grass and glued it on to the deer.
i wanted to hang it on some wood so i made some
for this i used
a piece of cardboard
wall compound
putty tool
kebab stick
water
brown / white and black paint
first i mixed the wall compound and covered the cardboard with it, then i used the kebab stick to make grooves so i looked like planks of wood. i used my hands to rub the wall compound in to a wood like texture and let it dry, then i painted it with watered down brown paint and added black in the grooves,
once it was dry i covered it all with watered down white paint as i wanted it to look like white washed wood. then glued the deer on to it. the deer was a bit to green so i gave it a light spray of white spray paint to lighten it

I would have never guessed that wasn't real wood if you hadn't said so! What a creative idea! This really is adorable, I could totally see a collection of four of them with different animal silhouettes.

That is fantastic! I've been wanted to do something with preserved moss, but have been daunted by the price (of getting enough to do anything big). Love the artificial grass idea!
