snowy pinecone wreath plus opening closed pinecones

    Uncategorized

what with all the bad wind and rain we have been having in england, i noticed there was loads of pine cones on the ground as they had been blown out of the tree, so i gathered a bag full, but they were all closed. so i lined a baking tray with tin foil and pre heated my oven at 200c and then popped them in for ten mins, and some of them had started opening so i removed them and left the rest in, it was a bit smoky so i turned it down to 180c and checked again in ten mins and removed some more. some took longer to open but i removed the open ones each time i checked, and the process took about an hour checking every 10 minutes. the ones put at the bottom of the oven seemed to open quicker.

once they had all opened i let them cool for a bit and prepared the base for the wreath. i didn’t have a wreath base so i made one out of two embroidery hoops wrapped with burlap. the large one had a hook already on it to hang it with.
i used my glue gun and started sticking the pine cones on to the smaller embroidery hoop standing up, then i placed that in side the large one and then added some wire to keep them together, then i glued pine cones around the larger one, once that was done i added the rest of the pine cones in between the two layers

to make it look snow covered, i laid down a bin liner so i didn’t make a mess, then i gave it a light spray with white spray paint. then i covered the wreath in spray glue and sprinkled on some faux snow and shook off the excess and that’s all it took. i then added a burlap bow to it.
so what with me gathering the pinecones and already having the other stuff from previous projects this cost me nothing to make
