In England we call pies like this pasties, they are made the shortcrust pastry, we have savoury and sweet pastries in Devon where i live.
i made these pasties sweet, with apples and blackberries.
i picked the blackberries from my garden which makes these extra special.
to make the shortcrust pastry i used
200g flour
120g unsalted butter
2 tbsp ice cold water.
in a bowl add the flour and butter and rub together until it resembles bread crumbs, then add the cold water and knead into a soft dough.
cover and refrigerate for ten minutes.
to make the filling i used
1 cup of blackberries and 2 apples
1/3 cup sugar
2 tbsp corn flour
3 tbsp water
chop up the apples and wash the blackberries, add into a pan with the water and sugar, cook on a low heat until sugar dissolves. add the cornflour to thicken the liquid.
preheat the oven to 180c
flour the surface and roll out pastry cut the pastry into circles.
roll each circle a bit more to make it larger and add the filling on one side of the circle, mix an egg in a cup and brush around the edges of the pastry then fold over the pastry.
pinch the edge together, and crimp.
make a some knife pricks on the top and brush with the egg and place on a lined baking tray.
continue this with the rest of the pastry.
bake for 15/20 minutes until golden.
