i dreamt up this recipe the other day, and they tasted amazing.
if you love churros and you love red velvet cake then imagine the two together.
recipe
40g butter (about 2 and a half tbsp)
1 tbsp caster sugar
65g plain flour (2/3 cup)
2 tsp cocoa powder
1 egg
50ml buttermilk
50ml water
red food colouring
in a pan add the water, red food colouring, sugar, buttermilk and butter,
stir until butter melts and bring to a rapid boil,
take pan off heat and sift in the flour and cocoa, using a wooden spoon quickly stir until the mixture comes together in a ball and comes away from the sides of the pan.
put back on the heat while stirring for 1 minute.
let cool slightly, in a separate dish beat the egg, add it a little at a time beating it in between each addition. (stick with it as it will look like it wont mix in but it will),
put a star nozzle into a piping bag and add the mixture,
heat oil in a pan to 180c or use a deep fat fryer and pipe in lines of the mixture about 3/4 inches long.
cook for 3/4 minutes (two minutes on each side)
dust with icing sugar and serve hot with cream cheese frosting or nutella
