    red velvet pancakes

    Uncategorized

i thought i would make these red velvet pancakes they would be perfect for valentines breakfast
in England our pancakes are more like crepes so it was nice to have these fluffy American style ones for a change.

    2 Tbsp granulated sugar
    2 Tbsp light-brown sugar
    1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    1 tsp baking powder
    2/4 tsp baking soda
    2 tbsp cocoa
    red gel colouring
    1/4 tsp salt
    1 1/3 cups buttermilk
    1/4 cup milk
    1/4 cup sour cream
    1/3 tsp vanilla extract
    2 eggs
3 tbsp salted butter, melted and cooled slightly, plus more for griddle

in a mixing bowl add the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder/ soda and cocoa and mix together then add the buttermilk, milk and sour cream and colouring and add the beaten egg and melted butter.
mix batter with a wooden spoon until smooth and thick.
heat a griddle to 350f or a frying pan and add some butter
ladle on the batter and cook and a few minutes on each side
serve with some cream cheese frosting.

Not sure it works, but I wonder if you were to lay down a large heart shaped metal cookie cutter and carefully pour the pancake batter while holding down the cutter "mold" if it were to shape them as hearts? One could even cookie-cutter shape cut hearts FROM these beautiful pancakes as well for that shape.

Of course round red lovelies work perfectly well too! Now you've really made me hungry! : – )

      Have a wonderful week.

How fun for Valentines day! I am also drooling over that glass milk bottle. Is that vintage, or does your milk still come in glass bottles there? Thank you for sharing it at to What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a great week! ~Deborah
