i thought it would be fun to create some red velvet Madeleine’s for valentines day.
i also made a concrete platter using a silicone tart mould from wholeport.com shown in the photo above it was really easy to make, i suggest using a silicone mould rather than a metal tin as you can peel it off more easily. i placed a circular pipe onto the tart mould then poured in concrete, once it was dry i removed it from the mould and removed the pipe and threaded string through the hole and that’s all it took. it would also be great as a cheese board.
the Madeleine’s are easy to make to, everything can be made in one bowl.
Makes approx 10 cakes
recipe
recipe
1/4 cup plus 3 tbsp plain flour
5 tbsp sugar
4 tbsp butter melted
2 tsp cocoa
red food colouring
pinch salt
1 egg
2 tsp buttermilk
1/2 tsp baking powder
melt the butter, stir in gel food colouring while butters warm as it will break it down, in a bowl add the sugar, 1/4 cup flour, salt and cocoa and then pour in the butter and egg and stir then add the butter milk,
add the remaining 3 tbsp flour
cover with cling film and put in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
take the moulds andget them ready by brushing melted butter into them and sift over some flour, tap then to remove any excess flour and place them in the fridge to,
you can also get a Madeleine mould from wholeport.com my father got mine from France where he lives.
preheat the oven to 360f
spoon the cake batter into each cavity 3/4 full
bake for 8/10 minutes
sprinkle with icing sugar.

Wonderful! How many does this make? Thanks
The madeleines look yummi. And I like the idea of a concrete board but each time I saw concrete in a kitchen (for countertop or board or everything else) I'm always questionning about the vapor in the concrete? Is it toxic like the concrete we have in the basement of our house????
This looks so yummy! I love your presentation! I might have to try making my own platter, thank you for the inspiration!
Smiles!
Terry
I make red velvet cake and make madeleines but never thought of making red velvet madeleines! GREAT idea, looks great – love your pics. They ALWAYS make me want to be less lazy and get in that wonderful kitchen I have and bake……but then I go read another blog post and suddenly the hours slip quietly by……………..sigh…..I really mean well…………….
