    blood orange chocolate cake with cacao nibs

    this cake has the juice and zest from a blood orange, with dutch process cocoa and cacao nibs and is drizzled with a blood orange glaze.
    my kitchen smelt so amazing while this was baking i could not wait to try a slice.

    i decorated it with some orange and yellow pansies with are in season now, and edible too.

    recipe for one small cake
    110g light brown sugar
    110g butter
    110g self raising flour
    2 eggs
    6 tbsp dutch process cocoa
    zest from one blood orange
    juice from half a blood orange
    pinch of salt
    4 tbsp cacao nibs
    3 tsp milk
    preheat the oven to 180c 350f
    grease a cake tin well i used small bundt style tin (double the recipe for large tins)
    in a mixer cream together the butter and sugar then add the eggs one at a time, sift in the flour, salt and coca and fold in.
    then add the zest, juice and cacao nibs and fold in.
    finally add the milk to loosen the batter.
    spoon into cake pan and bake for about 35 minutes
    for blood orange glaze
    3 tbsp blood orange juice
    100g icing sugar
    mix well then drizzle over cake.

      I am so happy I stumbled upon your blog. Your photography is amazing and loving every bit of it. It's hard to find blood orange in my local market here and I sure hope the fruit stalls brings in more of these lovely red ruby gem like oranges. It is indeed a fantastic pairing to chocolate cake.       What a beautiful presentation…chocolate/orange is my favorite flavor combo for desserts. I love the shape of the cake…can you point me in the direction to where I can find a similar mold?

        i found it on ebay. its a vintage one. i cant see a makers mark on it so im not too sure xx
