espresso semifreddo recipe from lomelinos icecream and a giveaway

    Uncategorized

lomelinos ice cream by Linda lomelino from call me cupcake is on sale now in English.
to celebrate its release i am sharing one of the recipes from it and giving away a copy of the book.
i chose to make the espresso semifreddo, it was so wonderful and creamy.

I have never really experienced semifreddo before, but now I’m hooked.
it was so good i cant wait to try out some other recipes from this beautiful book.
would you like to win a copy of lomelinos ice cream?
If so then leave a comment below telling me your favourite ice cream flavour.

    recipe
1/3 cup espresso or strong coffee
    1 tbsp Kahlua (coffee liquor)
    4 large egg yokes
    4 large egg whites
    1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 and 1/4 cups heavy whipping cream
3 and half ounces chocolate caramels such as rolos or caramellos
3 1/4 oz shaved milk chocolate at room temperature, i used a flake.
line a quart bread pan with plastic wrap and let the wrap hang over the edges so you can easily put the ice cream out of the pan once it is frozen.
bean the coffee and Kahlua and egg yokes in a bowl, in another bowl whip the egg whites and sugar together until a thick meringue.
in a third bowl whip the cream until firm and then ad the expresso mixture.
    next fold in the meringue.
chop the chocolate caramels and stir them through the mixture,
pour the mixture into the lined pan and freeze for about 6 hours,
decorate the semifreddo with shaved chocolate.

My favourite flavour is pistachio, but I'm picky about it! it's got to be artisanal gelato made out of sicilian nuts, light brown and flavourful. I could have it every single day…

I love Linda Lomelino and I'm sure this book is to die for, would love to have it ♥

Wow, I can't believe two of my favorite food bloggers are in one post! I have followed you and Linda for quite some time and fell in love with the moodiness (maybe a word?) in your photographs.

There's a beautiful gelateria near my house that has the most exquisite flavors, and I think my favorite ice cream flavor would have to come from there. The dense, lush lemon ricotta cardamom will forever have my heart, but avocado honey orange is a close second!

Thanks for always being an inspiration and making me hungry!

Commenting on your blog twice in one day because I just love your photos! Espresso ice cream is absolutely my favourite. We stopped off a cute little ice cream bar yesterday in the sunshine and I had an espresso ice cream there. It was amazing.

Oh my gosh, I've been drooling over her new book and my new replacement kitchen aid ice cream attachment came in the mail yesterday! Perfect timing…. My all time favorite is mint chip, the colored green kind. The white one just isn't the same…

I could do with getting an icecream attachment for mine as my icecream maker bowl is huge and takes over the freezer luckily this recipe didn't need churning xx

This book is another reason why I need a Kitchenaid ice cream attachment. Christmas is so far away.

My fav flavor is Rocky Road or a super smooth and creamy basic dark chocolate.

It would have to be the white chocolate and passion fruit swirl ice cream I had a summer in Rio when I was a kid. Maybe it was the heat and post-beach ravenous appetite but I remember thinking it was the best thing I ever tasted. I also like how they left some of the passion fruit seeds in the ice cream for crunch.

My long-term favourite was peppermint ice cream with dark chocolate chips, but I have now converted to pistachio gelato. I assume it must be something to do with the colour green…
Thank you so much for this inspirational virtual space I visit frequently to cheer myself up.

You and Linda are two of my favorite bloggers, so between her recipe and your styling, I'm totally in love with this semifreddo. I've never tried one, but it looks and sounds absolutely dreamy! (And for what it's worth, my favorite ice cream flavor is coffee. It brings back so many good memories!)

      Your espressso semifreddo looks delicious.
I like any flavour of ice cream apart from chocolate as I truly believe that chocolate should just be in the form of chocolate! But I think my favourite flavour is lemon meringue, but I'm willing to try different flavours just to confirm it.

This looks delicious! My favourite ice cream flavour is usually Caramel Speculoos from Haagen Dazs or a good chocolate ice cream. But on a trip to Rome last summer I fell in love with a little ice cream shop and I would make the trip on my knees to try their Sabayon ice cream with their chocolate or sabayon whipped cream. So amazing!

I used to love tutti fruiti as a child, do you remember it back in the 90's? I don't think you can get it anymore. I can't really remember what was in it, maybe bits of candied fruit? whatever it was it was lovely. x

I don't have only one favourite ice-cream flavour as I LOVE all of them! (and in this sense, I'm lucky to have been living in Italy the last 4 years. 🙂 One of my all-time loves is dark chocolate! 🙂 Although I must say, my favourite gelateria does a pretty cool 'sage and lemon' flavour! 🙂
P.S.: Your photos are amazing, Aimee!!!

My favorite has to be the nutella ice cream that I had once. It was so good that I don't even remember where I was when I had it anymore. Your blog is beautiful though, and I can't wait to try more of your recipes once I have a bigger kitchen! The photos you do are stunning as always, and thanks for doing what you do!
