    mincepie cinnamon orange buns

    Uncategorized

I was not that fond of mincepies until recently, to be honest I’m not really that fond of dried fruit but when I tried a mince pie last Christmas I was amazed at how great they are (my mums been trying to persuade me to try one for years but I refused as I thought they looked horrible). I had an idea to use the mince pie filling in a cinnamon roll, mixed with some orange, it tasted so Christmassy and my partner who refused to eat mince pies as he thinks they look horrible (we must be meant for each other lol) lapped them up so that’s good, I think I may have converted him. I’m still not a fan or Christmas cake or pudding though as I don’t like food that tastes like alcohol (I may be tempted to try an egg nog/ bourbon glazed cake though I’m trying to be more adventurous)

to make the dough I was inspired by a recipe I saw in the year of cozy book, I didn’t have the book on hand while I was making these, (I couldn’t be bothered to go to the dining room where by books are to get it) but I remembered that the dough had buttermilk and orange juice in it so that’s what I used and it made a wet, soft dough which was really nice.

    recipe for dough

    • 500g strong white flour (plus 2 tbsp if needed)
    • 1 sachet fast action yeast 7g
    • 4 tbsp. brown sugar
    • 250ml buttermilk
    • 60 ml juice from one large orange
    • 100 ml water
    • 1 tsp zest of an orange
    • 1 tsp salt
    for filling
    • 1 jar on mincemeat
    • zest of one large orange
    • 1 tsp cinnamon
    • 4 tbsp dried cranberries
    • 2 tbsp candied orange (optional)
mix all the filling ingredients together in a bowl and add 1 tsp of orange juice to loosen it and set asside
in the bowl of the stand mixer add the flour, sugar, yeast and on the opposite side of the bowl add the salt, then add the buttermilk and water and start mixing with the dough hook, then slowly pour in the orange juice you may need to add two more tbsp. of flour, then knead in the mixer for 5 minutes. cover and leave to rise for an hour to so or until doubled in size.
tip the dough out on to a floured surface and knock the air out of the dough and roll out into a large rectangle then spread the mincemeat onto it all the way to the edge, roll up into a log and cut off slices and place flat in a oven dish.
leave to prove for another hour.
preheat the oven to 180c and bake for 25 to 30 minutes,
I made a water icing with orange juice and icing sugar and drizzled it over

I am personally a fan of mincemeat (though definitely not of Christmas cake or pudding – yuck), so these would be right up my alley. The combo of orange and Buttermilk is sure to be spectacular!

you know what I have always been a difficult eater, i would not eat my food unless it was pretty and I still don’t!
what would a mincepie be without meat??? Just cinnamon rolls in this case? I love how soft and moist you made the dough sound! They look absolutely delicious…
