    faux moth specimen frame

    Uncategorized

first i got this moth specimen printable from graphics fairy i enlarged it slightly and then printed it and cut it out

first i painted the box frame black, and added a bit of crackle medium in places around the frame, then waited for it to dry, while i was waiting i got a wooden floor tile that just happened to fit perfectly in the frame and painted crackle medium on that to, then i painted the frame with an off white chalk paint, and distressed the edges to show the black paint underneath, then i got the wooden tile and waited it with white acrylic paint (as i used a crackle medium for acrylic paint), and the cracks started to appear almost instantly. once it had dried, i glued the moths on to it. then put it into the frame by gluing the tile to the back of the frame.

i got inspired to make this after watching CSI theres something about gill grissoms office which is slightly spooky, with all its specimens and bugs so i thought of it for my Halloween decor

Oh I love this Aimee! Love the crackle effect and the fact that you used a floor tile. Never thought about using that box of leftover floor tiles for anything! And who doesn't love CSI!!! Great project!

I love this! The graphics fairy is wonderful isn't she? I love how you crackled the floor tile to make it appear old. I would use this year round…not just for halloween!

      Have a great week!

I agree – this is a decorating idea for year-round. Love the effect of the paper moths in a box frame!

So lovely and classic. I never liked seeing the real moths or butterflies, you solved that problem. This is a super tutorial, great job. Thank you for the inspiration.

This is very cool. Would be a great halloween project. But I'd probably leave ours out with our real bug collection!
